Taylor had Special Olympics bowling today. She really had a lot of fun and got to bowl with her “partner in crime” at school, Eric. Taylor bowls using the ramp and apparently there are rules for ramp bowling.
i have to carry the bowl up to the ramp and set it down, but Taylor has to position the ramp all by herself and roll the ball on her own. Right now they are bowling 2 games each as practice games so they can get an idea of who to have bowling against who in the Regionals in October.
Taylor was so busy watching all the other bowlers that she wasn’t paying attention to what she was doing. She is such a people watcher. Anyway, she bowled a 54 the first game. Once things died down and some of the bowlers left, she did much better. She was paying attention to her bowling, so she actually bowled a 109. She got 2 spares and a strike.
She had so much fun and it’s nice to be around other people who understand and aren’t “put off” by my child. i got a compliment at the grocery store this morning from the cashier. i was getting Taylor to help put the groceries on the belt and the cashier just said, “you’re awesome”. i had to say “pardon me”. i wasn’t sure who she was talking to. She told me that i showed such patience with Taylor in letting her help me. She told me that the way i talked to Taylor was just great.
i had mixed emotions about the compliment. Sometimes i do tend to lose my patience a little and just tell Taylor to “hush” for a minute…especially when she is really wound up. i understand that i am human and are subject to the frailties that come with being just a regular person. It’s just that sometimes it does get hard. i like to believe that i lose my patience very infrequently. Of course, i could be deluding myself, in which case i will continue down the deluded path anyway. *smiles*

i can completely understand both sides, the patience as well as the intolerance. O/our son doesn't have the same level of disabilites that Taylor does but they used to be straining none the less...and you're right, you are human. Whether a child is with or without disabilities they can always try a mothers patience; at least i know O/ours did and W/we have one of each.
