Today, Master and i took Gavin on a surprise trip. We took him to a model railroad show that is put on once a year by a local model railroad club. This was the first time we had taken Gavin anywhere without all the other kids or his mom. Well, Master took him to the railroad station in Albany when they first moved here, but this was a lot better…for both Master and Gavin. Gavin was so excited and he was so good. We took a lot of video and pictures and i'll have to do a blog on my other site and share those there. You just can't begin to imagine all the little hidden surprises that they put on their huge layout. i don't know if i can even begin to write about it...it was something you just needed to see. The only bad thing was that after an hour or so, Gavin was so overloaded with excitement and emotion that his autism came out with a bang.
Actually, some of it was his autism and some of it was learned behavior that he got from his other nana. She always felt the need to buy him things as a way to buy his love. He wanted to buy one of the old broken model train cars that they had for sale. He was not very happy and actually told us that he never wanted to go anywhere with us again.
Now i know he didn't really mean it but it was still kind of sad especially since he was so good and we had so much fun before then. He did call us later and apologize and i know that deep down, Gavin loves Master and i very much…he just doesn't know how to tell us. It's just going to take some time, with us helping Gavin learn that he doesn't always need to get something to have fun. i know that we are a good influence on Gavin and he adores Master more than i can even find the words for.
i know for a fact, if he understood that he hurt Master's feelings with the things he said as we left the train show, Gavin would be heartbroken. He looks up to Master and Master has been the only really positive male role model for Gavin. i know that when Gavin is older, he will have a very close relationship with Master and it will be neat to see that unfold.
